Fibrous casings are one of the most versatile and widely used casing types in commercial meat processing. Made from a cellulose fiber matrix, they provide excellent dimensional consistency, strong smoke permeability, and reliable performance on both manual and automated stuffing equipment.
We stock fibrous casings in clear, mahogany, and red, with a broad range of sizes from small salami diameters up to large bologna and deli loaf formats. Other colors are available on request and may involve larger minimum quantities and longer lead times.
Fibrous casings are available in different grades, from strong meat cling to easy peel. Choose the grade that matches how the casing needs to release from your finished product.
| Grade | Description |
|---|---|
| Fibrous Protein Coated | Meat cling impregnation, the casing grips tightly to the product surface |
| Fibrous Regular | No impregnation, light adhesion, releases from easy to easy to peel |
| Fibrous Peelable | Peeling impregnation, releases from easy to peel to very easy to peel |

| More than 4 colors | 8 to 12 weeks | Varies by casing size and color, call Globe Casings for details |
Uniform diameter batch after batch for predictable yield.
Strong, even smoke penetration for consistent flavor and color.
Performs consistently on both manual and automated stuffing lines.
In house printing, up to 4 colors, for branded, market ready packaging.
Casing that will not release cleanly, or one that separates from the product and leaves air pockets, is almost always a soaking, humidity, or fit issue rather than a casing defect. See our casing troubleshooting guide for the specific causes and fixes for both problems.
Size reference from our product datasheet, 27 common size codes from 36mm through 180mm. Nominal caliber is the dry casing diameter. Stuffing diameter is the actual filled product diameter after stuffing.

Fibrous casings are based on cellulose, fibrous material, glycerin, and water.
Proper soaking makes the casing pliable and reduces the risk of splitting or bursting during stuffing. Store the casing in its original packaging until you are ready to soak, and use only fresh drinking water. Soak time depends on the format:
⚠️ Water that is too hot, too cold, or applied for too long or too short a time can change the characteristics of the casing. Do not soak longer than necessary.
